Nov 8-11: BurlyCon Weekend

BurlyCon is an annual educational conference for burlesque performers, producers, fans, and aficionados. BurlyCon is focused entirely on community-building, education, and social events. There are NO burlesque shows or contests! BurlyCon weekend is packed with thought-provoking, skill-building, and transformative opportunities. Topics include costuming, performance skills, history, photography, business, and ethics. A “newbie” track of introductory classes and workshops supports the budding burlesquer. A “seasoned” track of challenging panels and workshops will deepen and enhance skills for performers who have several years of experience.

The Playful Peacock Academy, the first school in the region specializing in the art of burlesque, was founded by Ophelia Flame and Gina Louise, who have been performing together since 2003 and teaching workshops since 2005. Their mission is to teach burlesque technique, performance, and history while encouraging self-expression and body confidence. The Academy welcomes adults of all backgrounds, ages, genders, body types, and experience. Students try burlesque just for fun, begin a path to the stage, or take their performance to the next level. The Playful Peacock offers performance opportunities, private lessons, custom events, bachelorette parties, and more!

We at the Playful Peacock are dedicated to inclusivity and community, and our scholarship programs are part of our mission. Every production of our variety show, The Peacock Cabaret, benefits our local burlesque community through scholarships and supportive programming sponsored by the Academy. The cast features special guest performers, seasoned and new, representing the entire Twin Cities cabaret scene. All performers are paid a fair rate, while our production team has opted to forego payment in order to pool our resources into innovative funding. Instead of tips, we collect donations throughout the evening to help fund these scholarships and programs. We appreciate the generous contributions and continued support of our audiences!
